We are working in partnership with the DSA to deliver its WorkFit programme in the Manchester area.

Our new WorkFit Officer, Lucy

Hi, I’m Lucy. Since finishing university, I have worked in the charity sector, as my passion is to help people in any way I can. For the past year and a half, I have been working with young people with special educational needs and disabilities to help improve their wellbeing and champion their rights with weekly sessions and I’m proud to be involved in watching their confidence grow over that time and see them gain more independence with the life skills I teach.

I have a beautiful 3-year-old son who has Down Syndrome and have since learnt a lot around the disability and love to advocate at any chance I can.

We have been coming to the chatterbox group every month that SMDSSG organise since it started running again after covid. I always said to myself that I would love to one day work for this incredible charity. So, I am very excited to now be a part of this lovely team.

What is WorkFit?

WorkFit is the Down’s Syndrome Association’s award-winning supported employment programme which brings together employers and jobseekers who have Down’s syndrome. It is a tailored service delivering bespoke training to employers to increase confidence and knowledge of Down’s syndrome and focuses on how best to support each individual candidate within the workplace. WorkFit delivers successful supported employment by finding the right role for the right candidate, with the right level of support, empowering and enabling both candidate and employer equally.
