Our warm and friendly team is here for every stage of your journey. We can help you find friendships, connect with other families, and access professional support and advice.

Back in 2004, there was a first ever parent-led support group at Burnage Children’s Centre for parents with children with Down’s syndrome. This was then followed by regular parent meet ups. The group chose the name ‘South Manchester Down Syndrome Support Group’ and welcomed new families, delivered a monthly newsletter by post, became affiliated to the national Down’s Syndrome Association and held its first ever Chatterbox in 2006 offering Speech & Language sessions to 19 families.

Officially registered as a charity in 2012, the group continued to develop new services including pre-school and a WorkFit Officer.

We have evolved and developed new services over the years, but our vision, values and purpose remain the same.

Our vision

Our vision is an inclusive world, where every person with Down’s syndrome is visible, supported and celebrated.

Our purpose

We help individuals with Down’s syndrome and their families to thrive through emotional and practical support, education and a warm welcome. Because we believe everyone deserves to be included.

Our values

We respect everyone.
We are positive.

We work together.

We are ambitious.

We are caring.

We ‘get it’

We use our lived experience and members’ feedback to shape the services we offer. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.

“This group was a life saver – it made me and my family feel far less isolated and put us in touch with professional services we couldn’t have done without.”
